Taunton Motors
High-speed, high-efficiency coreless brushed & brushless motors engineered for mission-critical sub-assemblies.
At Taunton Motors, we measure our success in micrometers and decibels. We understand that inside a premium robotic joint, a medical dosing pump, or a high-end smart lock, space is the ultimate luxury. Our mission is to pack maximum torque, unyielding durability, and near-silent acoustics into the most compact footprints imaginable.
Our expertise lies in the harmony of miniature engineering. From precision-wound rotors and high-purity copper commutators to custom-designed planetary gearheads, every component inside a Taunton Motors micro motor is optimized for low energy consumption and a friction-free lifespan. We constantly push the limits of micro-drive tech, utilizing advanced automated Swiss-style hobbing and Japanese dynamic balancing to ensure that our internal gear trains operate with zero-backlash precision. When the integrity of your high-tech device hangs on repeated mechanical perfection, Taunton Motors delivers the silent power that anchors your design.
Unlocking physical advantages by eliminating the iron core from rotor designs.
Because there are no steel laminations in the rotor, there is no magnetic detent torque. This ensures ultra-smooth rotation and micro-positioning capabilities without step ripples, vital for surgical and high-precision optics applications.
The self-supporting skew-wound copper coil creates a lightweight rotor structure. This results in mechanical time constants down to a few milliseconds, enabling instantaneous acceleration and deceleration profiles.
Optimized magnetic flux distributions combined with high-grade NdFeB magnets yield exceptionally high torque outputs relative to physical motor volumes, reducing total chassis weight.
Traceable quality control stages from raw material receipt to export logistics.
We deploy world-class industrial equipment to ensure tolerances are kept within micron levels.

How our manufacturing infrastructure ensures performance consistency and cost efficiency.
For global engineering companies sourcing components, supplier capability is measured by technical precision and supply chain reliability. Our production facility bridges this gap by combining Chinese raw material sourcing with strict quality management frameworks. By housing winding, machining, assembly, and quality verification under one roof, we eliminate intermediate markups and reduce transit damage risk.
Our core advantage lies in our precision winding process. Traditional micro-motors often suffer from coil inconsistencies that lead to uneven heat generation and localized hot spots. Our automated wire-winding technology secures uniform density across the skew-wound rotor, maximizing the copper fill factor. This leads to higher torque output per unit volume and improves thermal dissipation, allowing our 16mm and 22mm coreless motors to handle temporary overloads without stator failure.
Furthermore, our gear-cutting line relies on Ningjiang machine tools and high-precision gear hobbing systems. We achieve sub-micron concentricity on planetary gearboxes. When paired with our coreless DC motors, these gearboxes function with minimal backlash, ensuring quiet operation and a long lifecycle for delicate applications like active medical implants, electronic window shades, and aerospace camera gimbals.
We source high-purity oxygen-free copper wire, NdFeB (Neodymium) permanent magnets with high temperature ratings (up to SH/UH class), and premium graphite brushes from trusted suppliers. This ensures that electrical resistivity is minimized while magnet flux density remains stable over long operational spans.
All micro motor configurations undergo validation in our programmable temperature & humidity chambers, salt spray systems, and specialized soundproof rooms. We verify every specification—from insulation resistance to noise emission curves—before batch delivery.
How our coreless drive technology solves engineering challenges across key industries.
Our slotless brushless motors (e.g., 16mm-30mm BLDC motors) provide the smooth, low-vibration operation required for surgical handheld tools, active prosthetics, dialysis pumps, and laboratory analyzers.
For robotic grippers, humanoid joint assemblies, and camera stabilizing gimbals, our coreless brushed DC motors provide rapid acceleration and high torque density to maximize agility and reduce overall payload.
Miniature slotless motors paired with planetary gearheads power conveyor diversion gates, automated sorting systems, barcode scanners, and optical focus mechanisms with minimal downtime.
Critical considerations when importing coreless and miniature motors from China.
Procuring miniature motors involves evaluating more than just the unit price. Engineering teams must weigh customization capabilities, raw material origins, and quality assurance processes. When sourcing from China, verifying the manufacturer's vertical integration is critical. Factories that execute in-house shaft machining, gear hobbing, and winding are better equipped to maintain tight tolerances and offer reliable performance.

Answering key technical questions from design engineers and procurement departments.
The main difference is the rotor construction. Traditional DC motors wind copper coils around an iron core made of steel laminations. Coreless motors use a self-supporting, skew-wound copper coil as the rotor. This design removes the heavy iron core, which eliminates iron losses (eddy currents), prevents cogging torque, and reduces rotor inertia for much faster acceleration.
Brushed coreless motors are simpler to control, cost less initially, and are well-suited for intermittent duty cycles. However, the physical brushes and commutator eventually wear out. Brushless slotless motors use electronic commutation, which removes brush wear. This extends their operational life (limited only by the bearings), enables higher speeds (up to 25,000+ RPM), and reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI).
Yes. Customization is a key service we provide. We can modify shaft profiles (length, flat spots, diameter, cross-holes), alter planetary gear ratios for specific torque and speed requirements, adjust wire turns to meet target voltage and speed specs, and add custom connectors, cables, or encoders.
We use Japanese dynamic balancing machines to keep rotor imbalance below 0.05 mg. We also use high-end carbon/precious metal brushes, precision ground shafts, and quiet-running planetary gearheads. Additionally, every batch is verified in our acoustic testing chamber to ensure it meets strict noise thresholds before shipping.
For standard prototyping or small modifications, typical lead times are 2 to 3 weeks. Full volume production runs usually take 4 to 6 weeks, depending on material requirements and our current production schedule. We also provide express air shipping for urgent prototype evaluations.
