Taunton Motors
At Taunton Motors, we measure our success in micrometers and decibels. We understand that inside a premium robotic joint, a medical dosing pump, or a high-end smart lock, space is the ultimate luxury. Our mission is to pack maximum torque, unyielding durability, and near-silent acoustics into the most compact footprints imaginable.
Our expertise lies in the harmony of miniature engineering. From precision-wound rotors and high-purity copper commutators to custom-designed planetary gearheads, every component inside a Taunton Motors micro motor is optimized for low energy consumption and a friction-free lifespan. We constantly push the limits of micro-drive tech, utilizing advanced automated Swiss-style hobbing and Japanese dynamic balancing to ensure that our internal gear trains operate with zero-backlash precision. When the integrity of your high-tech device hangs on repeated mechanical perfection, Taunton Motors delivers the silent power that anchors your design.
Staying ahead of the curve requires an understanding of how micro-motors are transforming high-precision applications worldwide.
Modern industrial applications require components that minimize space while maximizing output. By utilizing high-density magnetic configurations and precision coreless windings, today’s micro motors pack unprecedented torque densities into outer diameters as small as 12mm to 16mm.
Industries are rapidly shifting from brushed DC architectures to Brushless DC (BLDC) solutions. BLDC designs mitigate mechanical wear, drastically extend service life, eliminate carbon dust contamination, and offer superior dynamic control via integrated digital hall-effect encoders.
Purchasing managers no longer look for standalone motors. The standard is now a complete modular drive system, combining the motor, a high-ratio planetary gearbox, an optical/magnetic encoder, and an intelligent drive controller into a unified structural unit.
Global procurement teams in Europe, North America, and high-precision Asian manufacturing hubs prioritize rigorous regulatory alignment. Key expectations include:
Taunton Motors addresses these demands through end-to-end integration. Rather than treating micro-motors as discrete components, we collaborate directly with system integrators. By aligning our lathing, milling, and precision winding capabilities with client structural designs, we accelerate time-to-market while reducing multi-supplier logistics risk.

The next generation of Taunton Motors miniature drives centers on smart integration. We are investing in integrated drive controllers that support real-time sensorless field-oriented control (FOC) directly within the motor housing. By eliminating traditional feedback cables, this development reduces electromagnetic interference (EMI) and decreases system weight.
Additionally, we are developing micro-planetary gearheads made of hybrid metals and performance polymers. This structure minimizes internal friction and optimizes quiet operation under heavy continuous loads. Our goal is to expand the boundaries of the micro-universe by providing drives that operate reliably under high speeds, low temperatures, and low acoustic conditions.
Every motor batch undergoes evaluation according to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) directive 2014/30/EU and low voltage directive 2014/35/EU. Technical documentation is kept on file and provided with all shipments to guarantee trouble-free integration for EU projects.
We provide comprehensive engineering options. Shaft profiles (such as D-cut, round, spline, and cross-drilled), gear ratios, and material selections (hardened steel, brass, or polymer) can be tailored to meet torque and noise requirements.
Coreless motors replace the heavy iron core with a self-supporting, skew-wound coil. This design eliminates cogging torque, reduces rotor inertia, minimizes brush wear, and results in smoother rotation with less acoustic output.
Standard design evaluation units are dispatched within 10 to 15 working days. Large production runs undergo strict manufacturing setup times, averaging 30 to 45 days, depending on material sourcing and QA protocols.
